Dementia Action Plan for Wales

Following Alzheimer's Society Cymru's successful #45000reasons campaign, the Welsh Government has launched its new Dementia Action Plan. Read more about the new strategy.

What is the Dementia Action plan for Wales?

The Action Plan sets out a clear strategy for Wales to become a dementia-friendly nation that recognises the rights of people with dementia to feel valued and live as independently as possible in their communities.

It quotes the Dementia Statements and pledges to consider the rights of people with dementia in the implementation of the plan.

The Plan recognises the need for cross-Government, multi-agency and society-wide support for people with dementia.

Sue Phelps, Country Director for Wales, said:

‘We hope the Dementia Action Plan will bring about the changes that people have told us they need to live well with dementia.’

How was the plan created?

Alzheimer’s Society Cymru worked closely with Welsh Government and Dementia Empowerment and Engagement Project (DEEP) to make sure people affected by dementia had their say throughout the development of the Action Plan.

To set out key priorities for the strategy, we also united with 22 organisations which represent and support people living with dementia, carers, and their wider support network. This was alongside other health and social care professionals.

The result of all of this work is a comprehensive response to the government's consultation, setting out our recommendations - based on the experiences of people affected by dementia in Wales.
